App-Based, SaaS and E-commerce Brands
We help growing subscription and e-commerce teams understand why their email programme is underperforming, and put the right structure in place so it reliably supports activation, retention, and revenue.
Teams with a live product and paying users who rely on email to support onboarding, activation, renewals, and account communication. Email is important, but confidence in whether it is actually working is low.
Apps where onboarding, early usage, and retention depend on email working alongside in-app messaging. Where activation stalls, deliverability assumptions are often part of the problem.
Businesses where free trials, self-serve signups, or early usage matter, and where email needs to guide users to value rather than simply push features or promotions.
How we think about email deliverability: the SENDER framework
Most email problems are not caused by one bad campaign. They happen when strategy, journeys, deliverability, and measurement quietly drift out of alignment. The SENDER framework is how we assess and improve email as a connected system, not a set of isolated sends.

We work exclusively with subscription software and app-based platforms. We understand how email performance affects activation, retention, and revenue in this specific context, not just open rates.
We focus on understanding what is actually happening before recommending anything. Teams stop guessing and start prioritising based on what the programme actually shows.
Experience across the major lifecycle email platforms, without pushing tools, templates, or shortcuts. The platform rarely is the problem.
We do not treat deliverability as a technical afterthought. It is built into how journeys are designed, sent, and measured, because inbox placement is a revenue issue, not an IT issue.
Founder & Lead Consultant
James founded Digistrat after seeing the same pattern repeat across subscription software teams. Plenty of email being sent. Journeys in place. Automations running. But no one with a clear picture of whether any of it was actually working as a system.
Having spent over a decade working across ESPs, agencies, and in-house teams, he kept noticing that the real problems were structural, not creative. Triggers that no longer reflected real user behaviour. Product and marketing sends that overlapped without anyone realising. Deliverability that was assumed to be fine until it visibly was not.
Digistrat exists to fix that. Not by adding more email, but by bringing genuine programme-level clarity to teams that know email matters and want confidence that it is doing its job.
A focused review of inbox placement and sending health. Covers authentication, domain reputation, infrastructure, list health, and early risk signals.
Hands-on fixes for the issues uncovered. Authentication setup, reputation repair, infrastructure changes, and sending practice improvements.
A monthly engagement to maintain clarity and oversight as your platform grows. Strategic check-ins, journey reviews, deliverability monitoring, and early risk flagging.
We can take a look and tell you honestly.
We’ll look at your setup at a high level and tell you honestly if there’s anything to fix
Digistrat was founded by James Deacon, an email specialist with over 10 years of experience across ESPs, agencies, and in-house subscription software teams. James leads all client work directly. There is no account management layer between you and the person doing the thinking.
Most email consultants focus on campaigns, copy, or individual sends. Digistrat operates at the programme level. We review the entire email system, structurally, strategically, and technically, so you understand what is actually happening and what to prioritise. We do not default to copy tweaks or send-more-email recommendations.
We work with most major platforms including HubSpot, Braze, Klaviyo, Customer.io, Iterable, Mailchimp, Sendgrid and Salesforce Marketing Cloud. If you use something else, ask us. We can usually accommodate it.
No. View-only access is sufficient. We do not make any changes to your DNS records, ESP settings, or automation flows as part of this engagement.
Most engagements begin with a Deliverability Health Audit. These give you a clear picture of what is working, what is not, and what to address first. Ongoing support and implementation help are available as follow-on engagements once we have that baseline in place.
Email marketing focuses on campaigns and content. Email deliverability consulting focuses on both the technical infrastructure that ensures emails reach the inbox and the marketing strategy. We’re the specialists you call when your emails are going to spam or you’re facing security issues, and you need to bridge that gap between email deliverability and email marketing.
